Sunday Market

Sunday was a blast from the past. I hung out with a different former coworker. I also decided that on Sunday I’d walk as much as possible in downtown and get a feel for my surroundings further east in the financial district. I needed to walk Yonge street and check out Eaton Centre. It took about 30 minutes, but I got there. I had to walk against the current in a sea of Toronto Blue Jays fans headed to the field from the subway. I kept my distance from a man yelling obscenities across the street and rerouted a few times due to construction. By the end of the walk I realized my orthopedic shoes, with the special inserts were not all they were cracked up to be. By the time I reached St. Laurence market at 1pm I knew I’d be looking for some crocs (or something) later!

It was so nice to hang out with my friend, his wife and son. We caught up on life, work family, etc between bites of Montreal smoked meat sandwiches, navigating the hectic market, strolling around the Distillery District, baby stroller carriage reversals (facing forward or back), photo ops, and ice cream pit-stops. There is nothing like visiting a town with a native by your side to lead the way! I had two personal guides and learned about Toronto’s rich history and the evolution of different neighborhoods over time. Like many cities, housing is expensive and in Toronto many condos remain vacant because locals can’t afford them. The city really is beautiful this time of year though and the walkability made my day every day! Makes me want to spend more time outdoors at home too!

We headed north to Eaton Centre then parted ways. I got some more comfortable shoes — a pair of slip-on Ugg sandals with a huge cushiony platform which felt like walking on clouds. Exactly what I needed! By the end of the day I was craving a salad and sleep! That I had and that I did! 😅 💤
